Help! My ball python has suddenly become aggressive!?
Having the scent of your ball python's food on your hands or body can elicit a strike. Stress will also cause a ball python to strike out at you. Causes of stress are... over-handling, over- crowding, too small an enclosure, illness, climate conditions in the tank are not being met, no hide/shelter or parasites. It may be best for you to get a snake hook to handle your BP. A hook will help re-condition your snake. Raising her up with the hook will weaken her defensive mode and mentally replace it with her trying to ride up on the snake hook. From the hook, guide her either to your hand or, to her feeding container. After a while, she should chill. Handle her with two hands as ball pythons have a fear of falling and are more comfortable if they feel stable and balanced. Check to see if she has retained eye caps from her last shed because if she cannot see, she will be grumpy all the time just as would as if she was in shed and, she will strike at just about anything that moves.
