My boyfriend got mad at me at something dumb?

My boyfriend insulted me yesterday in front of his daughter and my friends when I suggested that me and my best friend would have some girl time with his daughter and do makeup and hair since she's been complementing us about our makeup and wanting to see how its done. She's 11 and I suggested that we had little fun by doing each others hair and makeup when he responded by rudely said no. when I asked why he got even more mad at me and yelled "because I said so!!!" I was humiliataed and whole room got quite. When I left to my room because i was hurt he came in and started being very defensive. I calmly explained why his behavior was rude and he said " I dont need this sh*t and walked out. Now he hasnt been texting or calling for days. I dont think makeup thing was the true purpose of him being so mad at me. i dont know what i did wrong and I dont think I deserved that kind of treatment. What should I do?
